Life & Work with Will Tooke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Tooke.

Will, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started making videos in iMovie when I was around 10 years old. I’ve been interested in videography ever since, but I never considered pursuing a career in film until my senior year at UNCW.

I downloaded Premiere and After Effects as soon as I learned that college students get free access to the Adobe Creative Cloud. After four years of following YouTube tutorials and making random videos for fun, Bobby asked if I wanted to help him film and edit his first music video.

We’ve made a dozen music videos since, and I’ve recently started doing other kinds of freelance editing/vfx work.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s been plenty of ups and downs along the way. I live in Raleigh, and Bobby lives in Wilmington, so coordinating shoots has been one of the bigger challenges, but it’s also allowed us to work with artists in different areas of NC.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Along with shooting/editing music videos, I’ve recently started to do VFX work on independent films and contract editing work for small businesses in the local area.

Out of the three, I’m most proud of what I’ve done with music videos so far. I still have a long way to go, but I think I have a unique style that can’t be replicated easily.

What do you think about luck?
There’s been plenty of “bad luck” moments and learning experiences over the past year. However, I think those moments have helped us get better with each project. They also make the “good luck” moments more special.
