Today we’d like to introduce you to 2 Baddies On Birth Control Mariangel, Shelby Irene, Shéola Farquharson (Executive Producer).
Hi 2 Baddies on Birth Control, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Shelby:
Honestly, I never thought I’d end up podcasting with Mariangel because when we first met, I did not like her, lol. She came home from a night out with my sister, Taylor, being so loud they woke me up and I was instantly like, nope, not my kind of person. But the very next morning, we ended up in the kitchen, bonding over relationship drama and, funny enough, birth control side effects. That’s literally where the name came from.
From there, the friendship clicked. We launched the podcast in 2021, hit pause during the pandemic, and came back stronger in 2024. Now we’re heading into Season 3, and it feels surreal watching an idea born from a kitchen conversation grow into this space where women feel seen, laugh, and talk openly about real-life stuff.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Mariangel:
It has not been a smooth road at all. The hardest part has been the distance. I live in San Diego and Shelby in Atlanta. We both have full lives and careers that sometimes make it tough to stay consistent. But what keeps us coming back is the purpose behind it: creating this safe, fun space for women to talk, laugh, and connect. Almost like a private group chat where nothing’s off limits.
At the start, it was literally just Shelby and me figuring out everything on our own. We struggled with production, scheduling, all of it. But once we found our team, our executive producer and Tim Bowser Media; it felt like everything started to flow. Having that support gave us the freedom to really focus on our content and our voices.
How do you think about luck?
EP Kiko:
From my perspective, luck has been a huge part of this journey. The way Shelby and Mariangel met was pure chance. The way I crossed paths with them and eventually joined the team… also chance. Even meeting Tim Bowser Media was a stroke of luck.
But I’d say their “luck” is really tied to their energy and purpose. When you’re putting out something authentic and uplifting, it attracts the right people at the right time. That’s exactly what’s happened here. Every piece of “good luck” has come from them staying true to their mission and building something that resonates.
